Dr. Ken Dobson is an experienced clinician with years of general practice experience in the US Navy. He joined the Synergy family in 2018 after having been the Senior Public Health Advisor for a federal agency. He is especially adept at physical diagnosis and preventive medicine, having received Internal Medicine training and a Master of Public Health. Dr. Dobson enjoys teaching both his patients and students, and previously taught Physical Diagnosis Techniques in the Physician Assistant Masters program at Emory University. He is excited and honored to see patients in a primary care/urgent care clinic setting.

Dr. Dobson grew up in the North Georgia mountains, so in his spare time he enjoys vegetable gardening, fly fishing, cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs, and camping with his wife and three daughters.

Dr. Asha Swain is a board- certified family practitioner. She completed her family medicine residency in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where she later started a thriving solo medical practice. She recently relocated to this area to be closer to her children and grandchildren, and enjoys exploring her new town.

Dr. Swain joined Synergy in 2019 and is excited to utilize her decades of experience to serve as a primary care physician for her patients in Northern Virginia.

Dr. Pallavi Heda specializes in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. She is dual-board certified and completed both her Internal Medicine residency and an Endocrinology fellowship at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA. At Lahey, she actively participated in numerous research projects and presentations, including a publication in the American Journal of Medicine. She is an active member of Endocrine Society and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Dr. Heda joined Synergy in 2017 and is committed to providing the highest quality healthcare for patients with endocrine disorders in the Greater Tysons area.

Adnan Durrani, MD

Dr. Adnan Durrani trained in psychiatry and specializes in anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia, OCD, PTSD, substance use disorders, and various other life crises. Dr. Durrani provides psychotherapy, CBT, and medication as necessary. In addition to English, he speaks Hindi, Urdu, Pashto, and Punjabi. Dr. Durrani is excited to join the Synergy team and to provide mental health services to the greater Tysons community and beyond!

Dr. Amr Etman is a board-certified OB/GYN who specializes in the evaluation and management of women’s bodies and reproductive health, and has been practicing for several decades. His main areas of interest are in female infertility, transvaginal ultrasonography, recurrent pregnancy loss, intrauterine insemination, IUD implantation and removal, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, menopause, and female urinary incontinence. He is also experienced in treating all manner of gynecologic issues, in addition to first-trimester obstetrics.

Dr. Etman graduated from medical school in Egypt in 1987. He completed his PhD program in the United States in 1996 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a post graduate fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University at Syracuse.

After running a successful practice in Wyoming, he recently moved to the Northern Virginia area. He currently resides in Tysons with his wife and pet dog.


Bill Barrere, MD

Colleen Kelley, PA-C, has been working in the clinical arena for over 20 years. Before becoming a PA she did clinical and nutrition research. The first sixteen years of her career was spent treating pediatric patients aged newborn to 21 years of age. Since 2013 she has provided health care to both children and adults. Colleen enjoys the primary care/urgent care combination because she appreciates the importance of continuity of care and finds satisfaction in seeing patients through their recovery process.

Colleen has several interests in medicine including musculoskeletal, neurologic and metabolic problems, as well as preventive medicine interests that incorporate fitness and nutrition. When she is not treating patients or reading medical journals, she enjoys walking her dog and cat, activities with her three children, and visiting with friends and family.

Joe Pena, PA

Joe has 11 years of experience and is fluent in Spanish.

He has received training in aviation medicine, diving medicine, and is certified rescue diver and hyperbaric chamber.

Joe is always the consummate professional, and with a warm personality, his patients always feel they are in good hands. He enjoys hunting, scuba diving, and medical missions to South America.

Derek Russell is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and D.C. who holds a B.S. in Psychology and a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. A Northern Virginia native, Derek began his academic career on the path to becoming a medical doctor but decided that he wanted to help people process their struggles from a psychological perspective.

Utilizing techniques from multiple theoretical orientations, he works with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, and other life stressors. Derek enjoys working with children, teens, and adults with anxiety, depression, and OCD. In addition, he has a passion for helping young adults with developmental issues such as identity/purpose, motivation, and “quarter life crisis.”
