Signs of Dehydration

Our bodies are made up of approximately 60 percent of water. Water is an integral element of our lives, bodies, and overall well-being. It shouldn’t be a surprise that when our bodies do not retain enough water, bodily functions can go amiss. Symptoms can range from being as mild as a headache to something as severe as a seizure. There are numerous symptoms to take notice of that correlate to dehydration.

Moderate Signs

There are various moderate signs of dehydration that are easily detectable. Some of these include constant thirst, dry mouth, fatigue, headaches, dry skin, chapped lips, bad breath, muscle cramps, and dizziness.

Severe Signs

Severe signs of dehydration are prominent and necessitate your being seen by a medical professional. These signs include rapid breathing, severe dizziness or lightheadedness, delirium, dark-colored urine or not urinating at all, very dry skin that appears shriveled, sunken eyes, low blood pressure, and not sweating.

Dehydration is not something to put the side and worry about later on. It is an important reminder that your body needs water to function properly. On days where the heat is unbearable, it is smart to be prepared. Bring a water bottle wherever you go! That way, instinctively you can sip the water throughout the day wherever you are. Stay away from salty foods and coffee which will only dehydrate you quicker. If the signs are there, act on your instinct to treat the problem as soon as it arises.

Symptoms of dehydration are broad and can range in severity. If an individual were to lose consciousness, have a seizure, or a very high fever, call 911 or seek medical attention at the nearest ER as soon as possible.
