Fall Into Good Health!

Long gone are warm summer days. Welcome back, crisp fall air and colorful leaves!

As the seasons change, so does our lifestyle, between the kids getting back into school, switching our closets around for warmer layers, and now, avoiding those who are sick.

Fall into good habits this season!  Follow these tips to keep your family healthy this autumn.

Keep the kids safe and healthy: At a young age, kids develop behaviors that can influence them for the rest of their lives.  Start practicing healthy habits by making healthy meals, getting proper rest, and getting them more involved in extracurriculars that enhance their disciplinary skills and encourage them to stay active.

Take steps to prevent the flu: No one wants to be cooped up at home for days at a time suffering from a fever, fatigue, and muscle aches.  Be sure to get your entire family vaccinated for the flu before it reaches its peak in the winter months.  The best time to get your seasonal flu shot is now! We are already getting patients who are testing positive for the flu (!).

Steer clear of the common cold: If you feel a cold coming on, be sure to relieve your symptoms by staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, and getting proper rest.

Eat like an athlete – not a couch potato: Fall also means it’s time for some football!  Instead of reaching for those potato chips and dip, load up on the veggie platter, or opt for smaller portions.

Prepare your home for the winter season: Spring isn’t the only season for cleaning house.  Germs can live on hard surfaces for days, so be sure to conduct a deep cleaning. Sanitize surfaces such as countertops and doorknobs and dust bookshelves and fans.
