5 Things to Do Before Your Trip

Now that the kids are out of school, the workflow is slowing down, and the weather is finally warming up, you’re probably starting to think about your summer travel destinations.  Your airfare, hotel accommodations, and car rentals might be the only things you’re thinking about besides packing your bags, but if you want to achieve a smooth, headache-free trip, don’t leave home without accomplishing these five tasks.

  1. Create an itinerary: Planning takes the ease of getting to your destination and trying to figure out where you are, knowing nearby attractions and restaurants, and the best way to use your limited time.

  2. Manage your cash flow:  Stop by your bank before leaving for your trip to avoid arriving to your destination short on cash and save time searching for the nearest ATM in an unfamiliar area.  You should also call your bank or card company to let them know of your travel plans so they won’t suspect card fraud.

  3. Prepare your home: Throw away perishable food items, take out the garbage, make sure the laundry is done, and water the plants.  Also, notify your home security system monitoring company that you’ll be out of town.

  4. Check the weather: The weather is one of the biggest factors that can affect your trip positively or negatively, and failure to check the weather can result in unprepared traveling.  This helps you know what to pack based on your destination’s forecast.

  5. Get vaccinated: It’s always a good idea to visit a medical professional prior to departure to make sure you have prescriptions up to date and filled, and discuss any other medical precautions that need to be taken.  Depending upon what country you’re visiting, you may also want to have certain vaccinations administered to ensure your protection against endemic infectious agents.

At Synergy Immediate Care, we want your trip to be smooth sailing, which is why we administer certain walk-in travel vaccines Monday through Saturday.  We also provide prescriptions for travel medicine such as antimalarials and antidiarrheals, as well as other medications that our physicians recommend.
